Orange County Supervisors Dedicate August 24th (8/24) As Kobe Bryant Day

Los Angeles Lakers v Phoenix Suns

Orange County supervisors on Tuesday voted to declare Aug. 24 as Kobe Bryant Day.

Bryant obviously wore the numbers 8 and 24 in his playing days, said Orange County Board Chairwoman Michelle Steel, explaining why she settled on Aug. 24 as the date to honor the former Lakers great who died Jan. 26 in a helicopter crash that also killed his daughter and seven others. This according to ABC:

Steel said Bryant, who lived in Newport Beach, was a "treasured member of our community,'' who "inspired so many men and women to pursue their dreams and never give up.''

The helicopter crash back on January 26th of 2020 claimed the lives of Kobe Bryant, Gianna Bryant, Payton Chester, 13, Sarah Chester, 46, Alyssa Altobelli, 14, Keri Altobelli, 46, John Altobelli, 56, Christina Mauser, 38, and the helicopter's pilot Ara Zobayan, 50.
