Last year during the trade deadline, the Dodgers did the unthinkable and pulled off a trade to acquire starts Max Scherzer and Trea Turner. With Scherzer being a free agent after the season, the Dodgers knew they could lose him in the offseason.
Right before the lockout, the Mets and Scherzer agreed to a record setting contract and during his introductory press conference he stated the Dodgers pitching plans for him were the reason behind his dead arm. Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times caught up with the 37-year old to clarify some of his comments.
I don't blame the Dodgers, Scherzer said. Maybe I didn't make myself clear enough in what I was talking about." For Dodger fans to be upset with me, for me to get dead arm like that, hey, that’s fair game. Look, you play with L.A., you’re here to win the World Series.”
Scherzer was scheduled to start Game 6 of the NLCS but his arm wasn't ready to pitch against the Braves. He said he was able to throw from 60 to 75 feet before Game 6 but his arm was too “overcooked” to start that day.
